Erica Stross - Psychologist

Erica Stross

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Consultant

Erica works with large corporates, companies, and organsiations to make their workplaces and services inclusive to disabled people and employees living with challenging conditions. She carefully considers organisational strategy and objectives to deliver practical solutions appropriate for employees and individuals. This is achieved through collaborating with a network of like-minded professionals and experts who Erica knows well and has worked with for many years. All these individuals have a professional record of senior consultancy and operational experience with corporations and organisations across higher education institutions, and public and private sectors.

Psychologist

Erica holds a Postgraduate Diploma in organisational psychology from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST), UK, and a first-class honours Degree in Psychology and a Minor in business administration from Penn State University, USA. Erica has held a Certificate of Competence in Occupational Testing (Level A) from the British Psychological Society (BPS). For many years Erica worked as a needs assessor for students in receipt of Disabled Student Allowance (DSA), given to disabled students attending UK Higher Education Institutions, and provided specialist assistive technology training to those who required it.

Erica has a lived experience of disability, being born with congenital Cerebral Palsy-right-sided Hemiplegia. After graduating from Penn State University, Erica became focused on helping other disabled people like herself, to gain an inclusive post-secondary education and equitable career opportunities.

Erica’s research interests focus on disability inclusion, post-secondary education inclusion initiatives, and organisational leadership. She has been involved in various funded projects, including setting up the first Student Support Service – Disabilities for London Business School (LBS); mentoring disabled leaders on funded projects; and being part of a leadership team responsible for producing and distributing a manual of core materials and information to enable a network of guidance and support centres to be made accessible to higher education students and graduates across Europe.

As a psychologist, nothing gives Erica greater pleasure than seeing her work make a positive difference to the organisations and individuals she works with.

Testimonials

Erica, I just wanted to say thank you for being such a stalwart colleague in such a short space of time.  You have come in a run, got on with a mound of work with always a cheery word and you are always willing to help and offer it if you think the need is there.  You are the epitome of PRIDE behaviours and I wanted you to know we are happy to have you in Team FP!  Best regards, Linden 😊

The presentation you gave to the participating banks in November helped enormously in preparing us for the Disability Chances programme.

Erica Stross has successfully delivered Disability Action training to over a hundred managers in Manchester Housing.  The training programme has been very well received as it has increased both the awareness of disability legislation and the issues surrounding disability.

Manchester City Council

A new blueprint aiming to help disabled people find employment has been launched at Manchester Airport.  As a result of the project, the airport is overhauling its training programme, carrying out a survey of terminals and incorporating awareness into training and management schemes, to make sure the needs of disabled employees and customers are met.

Press Release

Manchester Airport

The feedback I had received from the students I spoke to was that those who had attended both days (Employment Action days) found it a very worthwhile and stimulating event, whilst those who only made it on Thursday were upset they hadn’t been able to attend the previous day.  They found the practical nature of the presentations particularly accessible and appreciated the opportunity to meet potential employers.
